Intoxication

I was having this little chat with a friend of mine about bad kidneys can cause lower back pain. But of course, back aches are mostly caused by bad posture and stress. She was surprised because she had kidney problem when she was younger. She did not know why she was suffering from back pain all these while until I told her the probability of kidney problem.

I remember when I was younger, I would suffer from terrible back pain that I would resort to sleeping on the floor because the bed is too soft for my comfort. It would worsen during those days of the month. I could hardly sit still for more than 10 minutes. I was like an 80 years old Ah Ma back then.

Little do I know that, those back pain that I was experiencing was not solely from bad sitting posture, but from a very bad habit that I have. Drinking water. I was known to carry around huge water bottle to school. And they are barely enough for me throughout school. I would drink to quench my thirst, to release stress, and to suppress hunger.

At a time, I consumed so much water that I almost put my life to risk. I was hyper-hydrated. I almost die from hyponatraemia. Hyponatraemia causes your brain to swell and it results to death.

Yes, you can die from drinking too much water. As a result of my massive consumption of water, my kidney had to work more than its capability, thus making my back hurt even more. My parents would scold me for drinking water, even until today.

I was under great stress nowadays because assignments are piling up and I can barely cope with the amount of work. I started drinking more water than usual my mum had to hide my water bottle. I cannot help it, ya know? I need water like how drug addicts need their drug. And how smokers need their fag. You know... I'm like a water tank.

The moral of the story is, don't be addicted to water. It is as harmful as drug addiction.
